How we can help support local businesses

We are want to make Hackney’s local economy fairer, more inclusive and resilient. We are here to help nurture start-ups, provide continuity for established businesses and support the growing and scaling up businesses.

  • If you are the occupier of a building or part of a building for non-domestic purposes, you probably have to pay business rates. Check if you need to pay business rates and find additional support.

  • Recycling more saves money. Our commercial waste team can give you tips on how to reduce waste and ways to save more money.

  • Does your business prepare, sell, store or transport food? Our environmental health team can help you register your food business, and provide advice on food safety, the hygiene safety system and on pest control.

  • Do you need help with licensing? Our team can help you apply for alcohol licenses, temporary event notices, highways and skips licenses, property licenses, shopfront trading licenses and gambling to name a few.

  • You need a street trading license before you can trade in a market, outside a shop or any other designated street trading site in Hackney. Our team can advise on how to apply.

  • Businesses based in Hackney can apply for a business permit for vehicles that are essential to the running of the business. Get in touch to find out more.

  • Looking to change the use or planning changes to our business property? Our team can help you determine what permissions you need and guide you through the application process.

  • Do you want to sell the Council? We spend over £300 million each year on a wide range of goods and services and we are always looking to work with local businesses. Find out more about tender opportunities and contracts here.
