Abney Park Cafe and Community Space Opportunity

Abney Park Cafe - Hackney Business Network

Abney Parks Trust is offering the exciting opportunity to run a new cafe and community space as part of the Abney Park Restoration Project. The new owners will have the opportunity to play a key role in the revitalisation of Abney Park, a treasured green space and one of London’s ‘Magnificent 7’ garden cemeteries.

The £5 million Abney Park Restoration Project is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, The National Lottery Community Fund and Hackney Council. Alongside building the new cafe and community centre, the park’s much-loved chapel will be restored for public use, an accessible park entrance will be installed, a new activity programme will be created and new species-rich lawn and grassland meadow areas will be introduced to improve biodiversity.

Restoration work began in October 2021 and is expected to be complete by Spring 2023. The latest stage of site development included the construction of a ground source heat pump, helping reduce the park’s carbon footprint.

The new heat pump works by absorbing natural heat from the ground and transferring the heat into buildings to provide heating and hot water in a low-carbon, energy efficient way. It will provide the park’s new cafe and community space with 100% of their heating and hot water all year round.

Applicants are encouraged to apply before 20 February. To apply, register for the Hackney Procurements Portal via the link below and use the Tender Reference Number ‘DN647583’.
