Overwhelming response to Winter Toy Appeal supports thousands of children and uplifts small business

Stokey Winter Toy Appeal 2023

Over 5000 children experiencing poverty in North and East London had a gift to open this Christmas, thanks to the kindness of donating participants in the ninth Winter Toy Appeal.

Created by the Local Buyers Club, the programme partnered with local Hackney toy shops to offer a range of toys for donors to buy for children in Hackney, Haringey, Islington, Tower Hamlets and Leyton.

Despite fears the rising cost of living would impact donations, organisers were pleased with the response of the public, with the appeal generating over £30,000 in sales for local business. Businesses such as Stoke Newington Toys and Books, The Toybox in Victoria Park and Church St’s Know and Love engaged with the programme.

The Winter Toy Appeal is a fantastic example of an initiative that has a strong local impact, helping children in need while also supporting local business.

Londoners can continue to support small businesses by joining the Local Buyers Club, which helps you discover and support London's best independent businesses in your area. Members are rewarded with savings of 10-25% or exclusive perks at hundreds of fantastic local shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and more.

Interested businesses are also encouraged to reach out to team@localbuyersclub.com to express interest in joining the Local Buyers Club programme.
